Sunday Night Youth

Sunday nights are when the youth group comes together for an evening of fun! We start with a meal and hang out and play games, and then break out into middle school and high school specific groups!

This week we will be talking about the fool and the sluggard n the book of Proverbs! The groups then will split into breakout groups specific to gender. The goal of the night is to spend time in the Word and to spend time growing as a community. The small groups allow other adults in our church to pour into our teenagers.

Sunday Night Youth Group starts at 6pm and ends at 8pm. We can't wait to see you this week at the youth house (white building south of the Cathedral)!

Blessing of the Animals Service

Blessing of the Animals Service

Save the date for a Blessing of the Animals Service hosted by St. Peter's Youth and the Missions Team on October 4th from 10:00am-12:00pm. The blessing will be held at the Youth House lawn. Bring your beloved pets and photos of any pets that are no longer with us. For more information or to volunteer, contact Chris De Stigter at cdestigter@stpetersfl.com.

St. Peter’s Animal Blessing Service FAQ

Q: What is an animal blessing service?
A: An animal blessing is a ceremony where pets and their owners gather to receive a blessing. It usually coincides with the feast day for St. Francis of Assisi (October 4th). The blessing itself will be a short service in the front lawns of St. Peter’s where your animal is blessed individually by a priest.

Q: Who is St. Francis of Assisi?
A: St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals and the environment. He is revered for his love and compassion for all creatures, and animal blessing events are often held in honor of his feast day.

Q: What kind of animals are allowed?
A: We welcome all domesticated pets, including dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, and even reptiles. For the safety and comfort of all participants, please ensure your pet is well-behaved and properly restrained (e.g., on a leash, in a carrier). Feel free to contact us if you have any concerns about your pet attending.

Q: What about my departed pet? Or if my animal cannot attend?
A: As a way of commemorating the importance of our animals that have departed or cannot attend, we welcome you to bring a picture of your pet.

Q: Can children attend with their pets?
A: Absolutely! This event is family-friendly and we encourage children to participate with their beloved pets under adult supervision.

Q: Will there be restrooms, water, food, and other amenities available?
A: We will have restrooms, snacks, and drinks available for all people attending. For the animals, we will have stations for drinking water and treats provided for your animals. We will also have a designated area for animals to go to the restroom as needed.

Q: Will the event include anything beyond the blessing?

A: Beyond the service, there will be opportunities to connect with local agencies on how to help local animals and pet owners. Specifically, Leon County Humane Society will be present and accepting pet food donations that serve under-resourced individuals with animals.

Parent's Night In

Guest Speaker: Robbie Castleman

Friday September 5th | 5:30pm-8pm

Attention all parents of children and teens! Come for fellowship, dinner, and a parent’s workshop. The children will be busy with a pizza dinner, craft, game time, and more. Our youth are going to have dinner and activities too. Our guest speaker, Robbie Castleman , has a heart for partnering with parents to help equip them to "Daddy, I'd like you to meet my children." That's Robbie Castleman's attitude about bringing your children to church. She believes that Sunday morning isn't a success if she has only managed to keep the kids quiet. Children of all ages are at church for the same reason as their parents: for the privilege of worshiping God. Worship, Castleman writes, is "the most important thing you can ever train your child to do." So with infectious passion, nitty-gritty advice and a touch of humor, she shows you how to help your children (from toddlers to teenagers) enter into worship. Dr. Robbie Castleman is professor Emerita of New Testament & Biblical Studies at John Brown University. She is the author of several books including Story Shaped Worship and Parenting in the Pew. Robbie is returning to Tallahassee to share her in-depth knowledge and love with you all. This will be a treat! There is something for the whole family this evening. So please RSVP for the dinner head count. We are asking for $20 donation per family to help cover the cost if you are able. Please RSVP to Amy Stewart at astewart@stpetersfl.com today! Please share who is coming, the ages of children and youth, and if there are any food allergies.

Robbie Castleman with the youth | 5 Sept | 4:30pm | If you are in high school mark your calendars for Friday September 5th at 4:30! Professor Castleman's time with St. Peter's youth won't just help you engage the story arc of biblical worship, but you'll get better grades if you go to college because of some ideas presented at the seminar!

Camp Araminta July 21-26 2025

Camp Araminta is one very active week with ongoing, exciting programs and activities that keep our kids busy from the crack of dawn until the evening. Camp is open to all rising 4th-12th grade students. We are building Christian Community through fellowship, living the Christian ideal from day to day, and learning to hold each other accountable. We also encourage discipleship by teaching youth how to filter the culture around us and discern what we listen to, say, and do (in music, media, and games). We are a ministry dedicated to supporting our youth as well as our fellow Anglicans.

Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Like birds learning to fly, our faith begins with a leap; we take that step and can feel God’s comfort surround us like the very air we breathe. The name Araminta was chosen because it means lofty in Hebrew. As Christians, not only do we keep our minds focused on things above (Col 3:2), but we strive to pass on the faith to others in a way that they, too, will take that leap and learn to fly into God’s comfort. Araminta from its English roots means prayer or protection, and our prayer is that Camp Araminta is a place “where faith takes flight” for everyone who comes here.

Our Mission
To support the children and youth ministries of the congregations of the Gulf Atlantic Diocese by offering a short-term intense experience of Christian community and discipleship.

Soul in the City

SIGNUPS OPEN NOW!

Soul in the City is a week-long overnight summer camp where rising 7th - 12th grade students physically and relationally invest in our local community with their time and talents by being the hands and feet of Jesus. During this action-packed week, students live on the Grace Anglican Church campus in a mission-styled setting. They sleep on air mattresses (girls and guys separated in different buildings) and shower in custom-built PVC pipe showers with curtains and safe platforms. It is straight from the hose (and quite cold sometimes).

Just like an overseas mission trip, Soul in the City is on mission to the local community. Students serve during the day at various mission sites, have fun with friends, and gather at the Barn in the evening for worship, teaching, and small group discussion. A typical day of service is about six hours and can range from yard clean up to playing with children. Each day there are many opportunities for fun. There are scheduled events throughout the week that happen on campus and are geared towards students having the best week of camp ever! Campers won’t leave Soul in the City without experiencing fun, and most importantly, spiritual transformation and growth.

Pricing:
January 1st - February 28th: $300 per camper
March 1st - April 30th: $325 per camper

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Why “Family Style”? Discipleship is not an individual event; God created us to journey and support each other in this life together. Family Style means families come to worship, pray, play, and fellowship together as a family and with other families. Our prayer is that this will be an opportunity to help families grow together in their faith and reconnect to God’s kingdom and each other. Our hope is that our families will leave empowered to continue growing their faith together at home.

What is Family Bible School?  Very similar to a regular VBS! There will be singing and dancing, interactive Bible stories, crafts, water games, and more! Children will start with their parents at their picnic blanket on the lawn, but they won’t be sitting for long! Families will be grouped in tribes and will visit stations together. Stations will be inside and outside the church. Kids will still have opportunities to have fun with old friends and make new ones. Parents will have a chance to connect with their peers, too!

What is expected of parents, grandparents, and guardians?  Have fun with your kids! You will help shepherd them to the different stations and help them participate in the activities and program. This is a great opportunity to share your faith and make memories with your children. This is not a drop-off event. Parents are participating for the entire time. We need at least one parent (grandparent or guardian) per family to stay. You are welcome to bring friends! You will be responsible for the children you bring. You will not be alone! There will be volunteers assigned to help and support families as they navigate the different activities and program.

What about my baby or toddlers?  Bring them! Nursery is open for the littlest ones, or they are welcome to stay with your family too!

What about my teens? Teens may participate with your family, or serve in one of the many volunteer positions needed to make FBS a great success!

If I volunteer, can I have dinner?  Yes! Dinner reservations are a part of the volunteer sign up. We want volunteers to come fellowship with dinner and worship with the families!

We prefer to have dinner at home.  No problem! If you would prefer not to partake of the parish dinners, you may certainly eat ahead of time and join us at 5:30 FBS programming, or pack your own picnic and eat with the other families at 5:00pm.

CSI Lay School Theology Eastertide Semester

  • St. Peter's Cathedral (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Class registration for the Lay School of Theology’s 2025 Eastertide semester is now open!

When: Wednesdays, 6–8:00 pm | May 7, 14. 21, and 28

There are two classes to choose from:

Thomas Aquinas and the Christian Life led by the Rev’d Canon Dr. Michael Petty

This class will help participants explore the teaching of one of the Church’s greatest theologians, St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274).  Reading will focus on selections from St. Thomas’ Summa Theologiae which have particular significance for the Church right now.  The Summa Theologiae is an intricate blend of Scripture, doctrine, spiritual teaching, and moral guidance.  For St. Thomas, the Christian life consists of certain intellectual, spiritual, and moral virtues which must all be held and practiced together.  While the Summa Theologiae is formidable in bulk and depth, we want to remember that the “beginners” for whom it was written were members of the Dominican order, priests who specialized in preaching, hearing confessions, teaching, and giving spiritual direction.  Each class session will focus on a major theme and its spiritual significance for us today:

May 7: The Strangeness of God: Christian Spirituality Begins with the Truth about God

May 14: The Strange Creature Called Human: The Spiritual Creature with a Physical Body

May 21: Why the Moral Life and the Spiritual Life are Organically Connected

May 28: Christ and the Eucharist: Christian Spirituality as Union with Christ

John Calvin and the Christian Life led by The Rev’d Dr. Jeff Trostle

In this class we will explore the significance of Christian tradition and spirituality and how Calvin's theology can help form a deeper biblical understanding of what it means to be truly spiritual. His theology is above all practical and he wrote that doctrine is not understood by the intellect and memory only, "but is received only when it possesses the whole soul, and finds its seeds and [application] in the inmost recesses of the heart." J.I. Packer said John Calvin was the most influential man in the world during his day. And Alistair McGrath wrote, "...it is impossible to understand modern Protestantism without coming to terms with John Calvin's legacy to the movement which he did so much to nourish and sustain." That movement was the Reformation and its driving force was to lead the Church back to its roots in God’s word and a rich spirituality. For Calvin, the essence of right living was spiritual.  Calvin was well acquainted with the cost of discipleship. The distress of exile, the burden of poverty, the hurt of slander and misrepresentation, the threat of physical harm, were all things he knew first hand, and his view of Christian spirituality as a result is seen in his understanding and exposition of living the Christian life. His theology produced the Puritans in England, the Huguenots in France, the ‘Beggars' in Holland, the Covenanters in Scotland, and the Pilgrim Fathers of New England, and more. I invite you to join me in looking at this remarkable and godly man from whom we can learn a great deal.
