Scripture shows us that people are fundamentally shaped by whomever, or whatever, they worship. If we worship money, reputation, power, esteem, relationships, family, or anything else - our lives will be overcome and shaped by those things. But, if we commit our lives to the worship of Christ, our broken lives will be overcome by His perfect life and our hearts shaped more in His image.
This is why Scriptural,Sacramental worship is the foundation of the Christian life. In worship, we are reminded of God’s love for us, we glorify Him for his perfect goodness, we come to him in petition and prayer, we receive His grace in the sacraments, and we are finally sent out to be his hands and feet in the world.
When it comes to the four avenues of discipleship, the avenue of worship is the most fundamental. It is only from a place of true, Christ-centered worship that we can grow in community with one another, grow in our spiritual formation, and engage in outreach in our communities and the world.
