Cultivating a Forgiving Spirit - Part 2

Cultivating a Forgiving Spirit - What does it mean?

by Lucille Palmer

Today I would like to share with you some things that interfere with my ability to cultivate a forgiving spirit. I think my pride, arrogance and self-righteous indignation have blocked my willingness to allow God’s grace to transform my brokenness. When I wallow in the “need to be right” as a crutch for rationalizing my anger and resentment I am keeping God from doing His work within me. In a way, I am playing God.

To cultivate a forgiving spirit, it is essential that I examine my own sinful nature and character flaws, acknowledge my own brokenness and surrender my heart to Jesus. I must turn to the Almighty One and rely on His power to change me.

 Romans 12:1

Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to His service pleasing Him….Let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind.

I need to ask God to remove all of my sins and shortcomings and let Him transform me by renewing my mind and unforgiving spirit.  Only God’s eternal grace can change me.

Romans 12:2

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — His good, pleasing and perfect will.
